Kiama Rainforest Nursery specialising in Illawarra Rain forest plants – Carls Rainforest Experiences

My home nursery began over 20 years ago to grow local native plants for our Landcare work at Bombo Headland. Since then, it has grown into a small but dedicated operation supplying high-quality, local provenance plants for bush regeneration, community planting events like National Tree Day, and native home gardens.

I specialise in Illawarra Rainforest species, but also grow a range of plants from other local vegetation communities. All species are carefully selected for their ecological value and local suitability—plants that thrive in our soils and support native wildlife.

Unlike many exotic plants sold in commercial nurseries—which can become invasive and damage native ecosystems—my plants are grown from locally sourced seed to help protect and restore our unique bushland.

Most stock is available in tube stock, which is both cost-effective for larger orders and ideal for successful planting and establishment.

The nursery is open by appointment only, as space and time are limited.

Check the attached stock list for the species I regularly grow. If you’re looking for something specific or have a restoration project in mind, feel free to get in touch.

Having worked in the Wollongong Botanic Gardens for 45 years, I have developed a vast knowledge of local plant species and which would be suitable for each individual situation. Ask us about your requirements today! We can also do a site consult or survey as an additional service.

Locally sourced seed

The majority of seed that we grow our tubestock from has been sourced within the Illawarra, helping to strengthen the local gene pool.
